Caged in Ornament

Caged in Ornaments is a plus-shaped indigo scroll whose cross-like form suggests both expansion and quiet restraint. Delicate floral and ornamental embroidery covers its surface, speaking to the flowery worlds we build around ourselves — habits, possessions, identities — that begin as comfort but slowly become confinement. The depth of the indigo ground holds this paradox beautifully: serene on the surface, inwardly constricted. Hansika created this work as an observation of how beauty and ease can quietly cage us when they prevent growth, while the scroll’s open, extended form suggests that release is always possible, if one chooses to see it.
